REFUSE COLLECTIONS HIT BY STRIKE ACTION

PUBLIC service workers went on strike over a national dispute about pensions on today, Tuesday, March 28.

But the effect in East Sussex was limited.

Priory School in Lewes was closed for the day although year 11 students stayed on to prepare for exams.

St Mary's Primary School in Crowborough was also closed.

There was no refuse collection or sweeping services in Lewes District. Householders were advised to hold their rubbish until this coming Tuesday.

In Wealden District the council was unable to make scheduled green waste and blue box collections.

Most other Wealden services were working normally, with light cover in some areas.
