READERS REACH MEGAN CAMPAIGN TARGET

YOU did it! Little Megan Hagland WILL be getting her vital monitor, thanks to your amazing generosity.

Incredibly it took just two weeks to raise enough money to buy the life saving machine for the two-year-old toddler, who suffers from a rare form of dwarfism.

In a heartwarming display of kindness money has flooded in since the campaign's launch.

Mum Kim Skippings, of Halton Crescent, said: "Wow! This is really great! We would all like to thank everyone so much for the support they have given us. We really appreciate it, and I know Megan will too."

Only a fortnight ago the Observer brought Megan's touching tale to light.

The tiny tot is just one of 20 in the world to have her particular type of dwarfism, which leaves her unable to breathe like a regular two-year-old. Forever at risk from heart problems she was desperately in need of a night time monitor, costing 3,500, which could check her condition and alert her anxious parents if she was in trouble. Kim now hopes to be using the Trace Pulse Oximeter Machine within the next couple of weeks.

Observer Editor Michael Beard said: "Knowing how generous our readers are we were quietly confident we would reach the target.

"What surprised us all was the speed we reached it in. To take just two weeks is incredible and confirms how caring they are. I would like to thank everyone who contributed."

This week cheques have been rolling in from yet more generous individuals and businesses who were touched by Megan's story.

Stamco Timber of St Leonards donated 100 and sent their best wishes to the family, and dozens of envelopes filled with personal donations and messages have all been gratefully received.

The clinching donation was made thanks to the 1066 Arrow Appeals charity whose president, Lottery winner Mick Maplesden, called to offer the 1,700 needed to top up the fund. Mr Maplesden said: "The charity has made a number of donations over the last two years and is pleased to support the monitor for Megan fund."

But please don't stop your donations coming in!

Megan is a special girl with many special needs.

Mum Kim, 27, said: "Megan's needs are endless, she's always in need of equipment to help her. Any extra money could be used for a special dwarfism bike, made specially to fit her."

Hastings Stage Studio Theatre Group for Performing Arts is continuing the fundraising drive by taking part in a sponsored swim next month in aid of the St Leonards' tot.

Further donations can still be sent to the Hastings Observer Office, Woods House, Telford Road, St Leonards, TN38 9LZ. Make your cheques payable to Monitor for Megan fund.
