HASTINGS’ own version of television quiz show The Chase featuring a trivia king raised £240 for St Michael’s Hospice.

The Lions Club of Hastings organised the event on the eve of this year’s Hastings Half Marathon along with a pre-race pasta meal at Azur, Marina Pavilion in St Leonards.

Professional quizzer CJ De Mooi, who is a panellist in the BBC2 show Eggheads, was in town to run in the half-marathon and stepped up to take part.

Three contestants put their knowledge to the test against him with former Arrow FM presenter Andy Knight acting as quizmaster.

Race organiser Eric Hardwick said: “The three contestants, against the clock, got 10 correct. In the final chase, with very difficult questions, CJ came within one of beating them. It was a very exciting contest.”

Azur director David Thorpe-Tracey said he was pleased to sponsor the event and, pictured above, presented a cheque for the funds raised to Marcia Dart, of St Michael’s Hospice.
