The annual event is in its 23rd year and is organised by Eastbourne Education Business Partnership and Eastbourne Borough Council.

Schools had been invited to produce a carpet garden design using the local downland as the theme. Eastbourne Mayor, Cllr Pat Hearn, judged the competition. Stone Cross Nursery, The Observatory Science Centre and Soren Learning Solutions provided prizes for the schools. The children also learnt about the rich diversity of the land that fringes Eastbourne and used this knowledge to inspire their designs.

Cllr Hearn said, “I was very impressed by all the work that the schools had done. Judging the different entries wasn’t easy but Heron Park Primary Academy was the clear winner.”
