STAFF from the post office in Hastings staged another strike last Thursday (June 20).
The half-day stoppage at the Cambridge Road branch started at 2pm and was called by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) amid an ongoing dispute centring on the Post Office’s plans to close or franchise more than 70 Crown offices - branches directly owned by the organisation.
The industrial action affected all Crown branches, including the branch in Bexhill.
Staff are again on strike tomorrow (Saturday) all day at the Cambridge Road branch.
Mole Meade, CWU area representative for the south east, said: “It’s unfortunate that we have had to take further strike action. No one in Hastings wants to see the demise of their Crown post office.”
Post Office managers are currently looking for retail partners for affected branches where services would be run from within a store, such as WHSmith.
