Hastings and Rye MP in top 10 expenses claimants

The Member of Parliament for Hastings and Rye is in the top 10 highest expenses claimants in Sussex for last year.

Amber Rudd billed the taxpayer £173,367.16 over the 2014-15 period placing her in sixth place out of the 16 county MPs.

The Conservative MP claimed the bulk of her expenses on staffing costs – £137,127.53– as well as £22,794.66 on office costs, £10,330.79 on accommodation, 2,854.18 on travel and £260 on ‘miscellaneous expenses’.

The figures were released by the Commons expenses watchdog, the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority on Saturday, September 10.

Some of Ms Rudd’s claims include £768 on council tax, £750 a month on rent, £62.16 on ink cartridge and 27p for fuel.

Her total expenses increased by £8,722.12 from 2013-14 and was only £104,207.69 back in 2011 meaning her bill has gone up by £69,159.47 since being in office.
