Candidate Profile: Michael Foster, Labour

Michael Foster, Labour

"I admit it – I am addicted to Hastings and Rye. My wife Rosemary and I were both born in Hastings and have lived here ever since. Our two sons and their families live here too.

"Being MP since 1997 has been an enormous privilege. As a local solicitor and councillor I knew we could do better and since being MP we have proven that "together we can".

"I am a Christian Socialist and the passion I hold for equality, fairness and opportunity for all is born out of that and Labour values. The goodness in so many who contribute to our society makes me optimistic but to fulfil our potential we need the tools and support that only a Labour government will provide.

"So whilst celebrating our achievements such as the hunting ban and our Hastings Sierra Leone Link I'll never forget the continuing challenges we face. Politics is always work in progress."

His top three priorities are:

1. Fulfilling our potential, as individuals and a community. The government's 500 million investment has brought positive changes. Plans for the link road, our rail connections and university expansion must be protected from cuts. My task is to work with you to attract further public and private investment to keep Hastings and Rye on track.

2. People matter most. Fair treatment whatever your gender, age, race, sexuality, religion or disability matters. Economic regeneration is not an end in itself but the means to deliver jobs, education and training, a top quality NHS and dignity in retirement.

3. Serving you. I have never misused my position as MP and I never will. I'm proud to represent you, my neighbours and friends. Together with my team we are never too busy at our open local office to take on your concerns. When you need someone on your side, we're here to help.
