Police: Is Bexhill getting a good enough service?

THE standard of policing in Bexhill has sparked a furious argument between police and civic leaders.

And the Bexhill Observer this week launches a major debate on policing in our town.

Councillor Keith Bridger s letter to to us in which he queried the police presence in Sidley has been followed by an in-depth town-wide attack by Cllr Stuart Earl.

He insists the service we get is simply not good enough.

Bexhill sector commander Inspector Max Mosley has issued a vigorous reply.

The Observer this week carries both sides of the argument in a two-page special.

Three recent attacks on elderly women on our streets stirred local feelings

Appealing once more for the public to report crime immediately, the Inspector says the attack in which Sidley resident Margaret Crouch was hit in the face with an air rifle butt might have been avoided if the victims of an earlier attack that morning had reported it.

Cllr Earl calls for the public to tell the new Chief Constable of Sussex "loud and clear" that they are not satisfied.

He says the police should get "off their backsides and do something about it..."

The Bexhill Observer is inviting local people to have their say.
