Police and Crime Commissioner visits site of plane wreckage

Mrs Bourne visited the touching tributes site on the footbridge near Shoreham Airport following the Shoreham Airshow disaster that saw a Hawker Hunter crash onto the A27 on Saturday.

Today a crane has been on the site to remove parts of the wreckage that is believed to have now killed up to 20 people.

In a statement, Mrs Bourne said: “The tragic events at Shoreham Air Show have touched each and every one of us and will, no doubt, continue to do so as more details emerge of those who have been caught up in this terrible incident.

“My thoughts and prayers remain with all those who have been affected; especially the families we know that have lost loved ones and those who remain unaccounted for.

“I will be meeting staff and officers from the emergency services today who are working tirelessly at the site of the crash and at dedicated facilities across the county to coordinate the Sussex-wide response.

“Their extraordinary professionalism and courage in the face of such devastation should not be underestimated.

“My thanks also go out to everyone assisting the emergency services and supporting the families of those who have been affected. It is has been heartening to see the local community pull together under such shocking circumstances and we must all continue to give support to those that need it.”
