BLACKBOYS CIRCULAR: Is Plumpton Footpath Society’s four mile walk on Sunday November 6 starting at 10.30am and will include the Vanguard Way and Wealdway. Meet at the recreation ground car park (which is free) in John Dann Close, Blackboys, (Map Ref: 523 207). The walk will be mostly good field paths and tracks but is likely to be muddy if wet. FLOWER CLUB: Demonstration by Gill Homer will be a Christmas demonstration titled Countdown to Christmas at the village hall, on Wednesday November 16 at 7.30pm. Visitors are most welcome at a cost of £2.50 at the door. There is always a raffle giving a chance to win one of the demonstrators’ arrangements.

BERWICK CHURCH: South Downs Way, Bo-Peep, Old Church Road, Berwick and lunch at the Cricketer’s Pub is the Plumpton Footpath Society’s four mile walk on Saturday November 19. DECORATIVE AND FINE ART SOCIETY: Stained Glass 1180-1960 by Diana Lloyd is the subject of the Newick and District Decorative and Fine Art Society meeting at the village hall on Tuesday November 8 at 2pm. The making of stained glass has hardly changed since the 12th Century; at its most simplistic it was merely coloured pieces of glass held together in a web of lead. Most medieval stained glass is to be found in churches throughout Europe and was the main way to tell the Bible stories to a mostly illiterate congregation, but examples can also be found in domestic settings and public buildings. Diana Lloyd is a freelance lecturer in ceramic, glass and the history of interior decoration in Europe. She lectures at the Inchbald School of Design and guides groups through museum collections. The lecture will be accompanied her excellent digital illustrations. Visitors are always most welcome; the cost is £7 on the door with tea and biscuits afterwards and a chance to talk to the speaker. FESTIVE FAIR: In support of St Peter and St James Hospice is on Saturday November 26 at the village hall from midday till 4pm. Please put this date in your diary; you will be able to do some Christmas shopping and help support the local hospice at the same time. Entry will be 50p for over 14 year olds. As part of the event there will be a Grand Raffle with a first prize of £100 and many other lovely prizes. About now the Hospice Support Group will post through your letter box an invitation to the Fair along with two books of raffle tickets which it is hoped you will purchase. Counterfoils and money can be taken to The Village Shop and Fyndings, Station Road (next to Woodgate Meadow) or to the hall on the day of the Fair. There will be many stalls with crafts and consumables, a grand raffle, tombola, games and refreshments. The Rock Choir and School Choir will be performing during the afternoon and of course Father Christmas will be there from 2pm. EXCEPTIONAL NEWS: Plumpton was well represented at a Recognition Ceremony organised by NHS Blood and Transplants at the Old Ship Hotel in Brighton this month. It was due to an excellent achievement by both Tim Parmenter and Alan Greening who received certificates and medals in recognition of having given 100 blood donations. Thanks go to them for that. Have you ever thought about becoming a blood donor? It only takes about an hour or so, three or four times a year and you could save someone’s life.
