Playden

And so it continues. Lawns are turning brown now and we are beginning to realise, just a little, what a prolonged drought must be like.

The drive and churchyard at St. Michael’s Church looked very festive over the week-end for the Summer Fair and Flower Festival, with colourful bunting stretched across from tree to tree. There were traditional stalls and games, Bar-B-Q, Pimms and refreshments of cake, scones and tea or coffee. All delicious. It was lovely to hear sudden bursts of laughter from all directions.

The flowers in the church, where it was cooler, were very beautiful, and skilfully arranged by “the ladies.”

The Fair on the Saturday raised over £1,200 with totals from the Flower Festival not currently available. Huge thanks to everyone who worked so hard, set it up, cleared it up, and those who came to support the event.

Playden will now go into retreat for the summer. The next thing to happen will be a couple of concerts during Rye Festival. They will be on Thursday 19th September at 7.30 pm and Friday 27th September at 1 pm. Details later or in the Festival programme book.

On Wednesday 31st July, Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is holding a “Moths for All Ages” morning from 10 am. Bring the family to learn about the moths that fly around the reserve at night and look at the moths caught in the trap last night. Meet at Lime Kiln Cottage Information Centre, which is wheel -chair accessible. There is no need to book, there is no charge, but donations would be appreciated.

In spite of what Fixtures has to say, there will not be Playden Parish Council Meeting in August.

The 11 am service will be Parish Communion, but not led by the Vicar this week.
