Pitch for a Pitch is won by The Hastleons

THE winner of Hastings Beer and Music Festival’s Pitch for a Pitch competition has been announced.

The Hastleons amateur dramatics group came top and was one of 17 community groups and charities that entered the contest.

It will be given an inflatable Bungee Run to staff throughout the festival, which is on Friday, July 4 and Saturday, July 5, the proceeds from which will go directly to the group’s cause, as well as a £500 donation from the festival organiser, Hastings Round Table.

Simon Richardson, community officer for Hastings Round Table, said: “We had 17 completely different applications, from some incredibly worthy local causes, to narrow it down to just one winner was a very daunting task.”

Tony Lee, event chairman, said: “The Hastleons now have a great opportunity to showcase their cause and to raise awareness. Last year’s winners, Hastings and Bexhill Rugby Club successfully raised £2,000 for St Michael’s Hospice throughout the 2013 festival. In addition to the principal winner we’re going to throw three lucky runners-up a special lifeline to fundraise at one of the sessions, with a £250 donation to their chosen charity or cause.”

The Hastings Beer and Music Festival team is in Priory Meadow Shopping Centre between 9am to 5.30pm tomorrow (Saturday) who will be on hand to answer any questions.

There will be guest appearances and live music from Dead Rabbits, Sam Calver and The Battle of Hastings Proms Choir throughout the day, which also sees a 10 per cent discount for Observer readers, with Proms tickets selling at £13.50 and for the Friday and Saturday festival at just £9.
