Pirates to plunder Hastings Pier

Roger Crouch, the man behind the hugely successful event, has announced Hastings Pier will be playing host to a wide range of pirate-themed activities and attractions, as well as the whole town on Sunday, July 17.

He is also calling on people to hoist the colours to make Hastings the pirate capital of the world.

Mr Crouch said: “With great and enthusiastic cooperation from the management of the pier we are pleased to announce pirate entertainment on the pier on July 17.

“There will be a range of activities throughout the day on the pier, ranging from children’s pirate entertainment to music, pirate circus workshop, pirate choir, swashbuckling stunt action, drum groups, pop-up pirate music plus a chance for pirates to form the human image of the word Hastings on the pier and filmed from the air.

“It is a great privilege to be able to take the event to the pier and it will add another dimension to Pirate Day.”

A spokesman for Hastings Pier Charity said: “We are delighted to be shipmates with the Pirate Day team to host these activities on the pier. This is sure to be a fantastic, fun day for all involved, and we are very much looking forward to this must-visit event in Hastings’ calendar.”

There will also be pirate activities on the Stade Open Space where The Jacks will set up their own Caribbean village, as well as in Butler’s Gap, George Street, Pelham Beach, the town centre, Robertson Street and Priory Meadow Shopping Centre, which is organising activities in Queens Square.

Bands will be playing live music, including The Dolmen, as well as home-grown groups.

A pirate will also literally be flying in for a great stunt aerial display.

Mr Crouch added: “I want to see as many pirate flags as possible on the day to make a real spectacular display. We’ve also got Blackbeard’s market on the Stade Open Space, street theatre and children’s entertainment in the Old Town.

“I’m looking forward to organising Pirate Day again, working with some great people and organisations.”
