Crews are currently at Ripley scrapyard, at Hole Farm, Westfield Lane, Westfield.
Residents living nearby have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed.
A spokesman for the fire service said: “We are currently attending a fire at Westfield Lane, Westfield. Local residents are advised to close windows and avoid the area.”
In an update at 6.34pm, the spokesman added: “Westfield fire. Crews are making good progress, and the water carrier is now on site. Residents are still asked to keep door and windows closed and to avoid the area.”
