APPLICATIONS to watch hip hop duo Rizzle Kicks at the Olympic Torch Relay evening event in July have been flooding in.

Hastings Borough Council, which is organising the ticketing for the extravaganza on July 17 in the Stade Open Space, said the response from residents had been ‘phenomenal’.

Details on how to apply were announced earlier this month and people only have until next Friday (June 1) to snap up tickets.

Kevin Boorman, the council’s marketing manager, said: “We have had around 700 envelopes come through with applications for tickets, with around 50 to 100 arriving most days. The maximum number of tickets will be 2,600.

“There has been phenomenal interest and we are planning for large crowds. We are expecting demand will exceed supply.”

As well as the musical duo Jordan ‘Rizzle’ Stephens and Harley ‘Sylvester’ Alexander-Sule, who have notched up three top 10 hits since bursting onto the music scene last year as Rizzle Kicks, there will be acrobatic and dance performances.

The stage show will include two, 10-minute slots of locally-programmed entertainment during the evening celebration. This will include a dance routine celebrating Hastings’ history led by Helenswood School, and a community choir led by Hastings Philharmonic Choir. The set from the Rizzle Kicks (picture above right) is expected to last between 15 and 20 minutes.

For those without a ticket there will be a giant screen in Pelham Place car park showing the live entertainment.

Residents who want tickets should write to Olympic Torch Evening Event, Town Hall, Queens Road, Hastings TN34 1QR by Friday.

They should include a stamped addressed envelope with a Hastings address, and organisers will pick envelopes at random after that date until all of the tickets have been allocated. No tickets will be issued until after Friday, and everyone who applies by then will have the same chance of getting a ticket.

Each application can be for a maximum of four tickets, and no one under the age of 18 can be unaccompanied, so every application must include at least one adult.

The event starts at 5pm, with doors opening at 4pm. It will finish by 7.30pm.
