£2,156.52 was raised on Tuesday July 15 at the Open Garden held for St Michael’s Hospice at Fairlight End. Sally Beresford, Community Fundraiser for the hospice thought it was fantastic. She also thanked Chris and Robin Hutt for ’....superb hospitality, kindness and support on Tuesday, it was the perfect day for an Open Garden, lots of sunshine and just a little breeze. There were many comments from visitors and volunteers about your wonderful garden, it is certainly one of the special gardens that opens for the Hospice.’

Also on Tuesday July 15, at the meeting of Pett Parish Council, members of the council and the public heard a presentation from Kevin Wallis, Emergency Planning Officer from Rother District Council. Kevin described the measures taken behind the scenes to avoid or mitigate local disaster situations. He also emphasised that local communities need to have emergency plans in place and be able to identify vulnerable residents.

At the meeting of Pett WI on Friday July 18 members heard a fascinating talk about the village from local historian, John Taylor. At one point John showed a photograph of the Pett Home Guard during the Second World War. He asked if anyone could identify any of those in the picture. One member pointed out that the one sitting third from right in the front row was in fact her father! She was delighted when John promised to let her have a copy of the photo as she didn’t have many of her father because ‘he was the one with the camera!’

Well, what a weekend to look forward to! Not only is there Pett Flower Show and Fayre on Saturday July 26 from 2-4pm at the Recreation Ground and the Pett Piranhas Peculiar Picnic in the marquee on Sunday 27 July but also there is now an event in the marquee on the Saturday night! Michael Hambridge is holding a private dance in the Flower Show Marquee from 8.00 pm to which he has invited all Pett residents, who should bring their own food and drink. Donations toward the cost of the new Pett Recreation Ground Pavilion are welcome.

Church Services on Sunday July 27 – Holy Communion, St Mary & St Peter, Pett at 9:30am led by Richard Barron; Sunday Service at the Methodist Chapel at 10:45am.

On Monday July 28 the Village Choir will meet again at 7:30pm in Pett Methodist Chapel.

POPP on Tuesday July 29 will feature Annie Cryer with Tai Chi. The session runs from 10:30am to 2:30pm and will include a two-course lunch for just £5.

Icklesham Casuals Football Club is training for the new season at Icklesham Recreation Ground every Wednesday evening from 6.30 p.m. and is looking for more local players. Anyone interested in joining the friendly club is most welcome to come along.
