A petition has been launched to name Hastings Pier after late council leader Jeremy Birch.
Almost 700 people have signed the online document, set up by Peter Carlyle.
He said: “Naming Hastings Pier the Hastings Birch Pier would commemorate the original designer of the pier (Eugenius Birch) as well as be a fitting tribute to the late Jeremy Birch, who played a significant role in the saving and gaining funding and support for the pier’s restoration after the fire in October 2010.
“Jeremy also played a massive role in the improvement and regeneration of Hastings and St Leonards as a whole.”
