Harry Blackman, 25, and his dad Glenn were at Bexhill beach on Monday (August 31) preparing to launch their new homemade kayak.

However, at about 3.15pm, a woman called for help saying her husband had gone into the sea to get his dog after it had ran into the water while chasing a seagull.

She said he had swam out to sea but she could no longer see him and was getting worried he was unable to get back to shore by himself.

Harry grabbed his kayak and a lifejacket and started rowing out to find the man and his dog. He had been rowing for approximately ten minutes when he eventually caught up with them.

He picked the dog - a cavapoo called Coco - out of the water and lay it down on the front of the kayak, and passed the man a lifejacket.

Harry told the man to hold onto the back of his kayak while he rowed them safely back to shore.

Despite exhaustion, neither the man or his dog were injured during the incident.

Afterwards, Harry's mum Jacqueline said she was so proud of her son's quick decision making.

She added: "He has just got the biggest heart. He is the sort of person who would help anyone in the street but on this occasion he reacted so quickly and went out to rescue them.

"He was down there to launch his new homemade kayak which is essentially two kayaks joined together with a motor in between. He grabbed one of these to go to rescue the man and his dog. His kayak didn't have a seat and he rowed for what must have been ten to 12 minutes just to catch up with them.

"The couple said they owned a beach hut and had never known their dog to do this but they were so grateful for Harry."

Harry spoke with the couple following the incident and exchanged contact details.

The incident was all captured on Harry's GoPro, which he shared onto his Facebook page.

In the footage, the owner and his husband are seen thanking Harry's for his lifesaving actions.

Harry's sister Poppy Grace added: "I'm so amazed by my brother Harry's actions and his quick thinking plan."
