There have been a number of spottings of the animal in the area over the past few weeks.

However, the coastguard says it has received multiple messages about people getting very close to the seal.

A spokesman for Bexhill Coastguard said: “(The seals) have been assessed by Marine Medics from British Divers Marine Life Rescue and are healthy.

“It is not uncommon for seals to come ashore, they do this to rest or digest their food and can spend many days at a time out of the water. DO NOT attempt to chase them back into the sea.

“If you see a seal on the beach DO NOT approach it, watch from a distance as not to cause the animal to become distressed.

“Keep children and dogs well away. Seals are wild animals and although they look cute they have very sharp teeth, can move quickly and will defend themselves aggressively if they feel threatened.

“Please help keep the seals safe by following this advice. We would also kindly request that you do not share the location of the seals on social media.

“If you believe a seal is in distress or injured please contact us or British Divers Marine Life Rescue.”
