In an email to parents, staff at Robertsbridge Community College, in Knelle Road, Robertsbridge, said the procedure was activated after a small group of young people, who are not members of the school community, arrived at the school grounds.

The school said this incident triggered lockdown procedures to ‘ensure the safety of all in the building’.

In a letter to parents, headteacher Zak Vice said: “Our staff and students behaved admirably, in a calm orderly manner, which meant that we were quickly able to have control of the situation and account for every individual.

“Nobody was harmed and there was no damage to any property.

“I appreciate that this incident may have upset some of our students but please rest assured that we are working closely with the police to identify the young people and to ensure that this does not happen again.”

The school has been approached for more information.
