Procession of classic cars driven through Bexhill: in pictures

The people of Bexhill were given a much-need moral boost on Bank Holiday Monday with a procession of classic cars.

The Bexhill 100 Motoring Club and Bexhill mayor Lynn Langlands organised a change to this year’s Classic Car Show due to the restrictions in place because of the Covid-19 pandemic. As an alternative, it was discussed how they might offer something to the residents of the town to help cheer people up and bring something to those who were still unsure about going out and being amongst large public groups. Cllr Langlands said: “We came up with the Mayor’s Motoring Cavalcade, and planned for a few classic vehicles to parade all round Bexhill (to include Pebsham and Sidley) and enable folk to come and stand at the roadside near to their homes to view the parade. This was such a thoughtful and generous offer on behalf of the club to the community, as the time and energy they have put into this event has the potential to give enjoyment to many, and is free to enjoy.” A variety of classic and custom cars drove around Bexhill streets between 12pm and 2pm. Chris Speck, chairman of Bexhill 100 Motoring Club, said: “This would have been the Club’s 16th Classic Car Show – each year the Club donates the profit from the shows to local charities. We were hoping to break the £100,000 mark this year, but we sadly had to cancel the show due to the Corona Virus outbreak. We wanted to give something back to the community during these difficult times.”
