Police patrol Bexhill shops urging customers to wear face masks

People shopping in Bexhill have been urged by police to wear face masks on the first day they were made mandatory in England.

As of today (Friday, July 24) it is compulsory to wear a face mask in public spaces, such as shops, banks and takeaways, in England.

Rother Police officers have been patrolling shops in Bexhill urging customers to follow the new rules.

"Today is the day that we urge you to please wear masks when shopping," police said.

"Please support our retailers with this, help them to help you."

Police have been given powers to fine people £100 if they refuse to wear a mask.
