Northiam Bonfire Society said the decision had been taken after consultation with its membership in response to the health and safety concerns presented by the pandemic, alongside the impact of this year’s reduced fundraising activities.

Roger Burrows, chairman of the society, said: “I’m very sorry for disappointing the society’s supporters but I believs public safety should come before all other considerations.

“Fundraising activities are expected to resume in the New Year and we very much look forward to welcoming you all to a spectacular show in 2021.”

Last year’s event saw 13 bonfire societies and drumming groups descend on Northiam.
