Hastings woodland area used as a rubbish dump

An area of woodland at the rear of Whatlington Way in Hollington, is becoming an unsightly dumping ground for rubbish says Hastings and East Sussex County councillor Phil Scott.

Highlighting the ongoing issue and calling for action, Cllr Scott said: “This area of woodland is full of litter and fly-tipped material. Hastings Borough Council always used to clear this hotspot. I remember reporting it regularly to Hastings Borough Council officer, who in turn would get it cleared.

“I am advised that although East Sussex County Council own the land, that it is the responsibility of the Hastings Council Street Cleansing Department to deal with and clear it.

“There is a dilemma as both local authorities are not moving on this issue. It affects the environment and residents have to suffer the mess.

“Why don’t both local authorities pool their resources and clear the woodland now and then argue about who is going to take responsibility over who will clear it in the future and who will then ensure the environment is protected from this sort of offensive activity in the future.

“I am looking to achieve a positive outcome for the residents and the environment.”
