Hastings pays respects to ‘loving husband and devoting father’

The people of Hastings paused this afternoon to pay their respects to a ‘loving husband and devoting father’ who died following a brave battle with cancer.

Kevin Clayton, a former IT worker at Hastings Borough Council, died at St Michaels Hospice, aged 50, on July 8. In an obituary published in the Hastings Observer, his family said he was a ‘loving husband to Donna and devoted father to Christoper’. “Taken too soon, loved and sadly missed by all family and friends,” his family added. On Friday (July 31), a processions of motorcycles, followed by the hearse, drove past Muriel Matters House, where councillors and staff gathered to pay their respects ahead of a private funeral this afternoon. Jane Hartnell, managing director at Hastings Borough Council, said: “Kevin was a fun and supportive friend to many of us, as well as a much valued colleague. Kevin worked for the council for 20 years before he was sadly taken far too soon. Kevin led vital IT projects from preparing for the Millennium bug in 2000, and then transitioning us to become the cutting-edge digital council we are today. His legacy has never been more essential as we have used this technology to support our town over the last few challenging months. He will be very sadly missed. Our thoughts are with his wife Donna and his son Christopher.”
