Hastings Day is celebrated with a bang

Hastings Day (October 14) was still celebrated with a bang this week but in a Covid compliant way.

Instead of a torchlight procession with hundred of flaming torches and a huge bonfire and firework display, Covid restrictions meant that only a small event was possible, without publicity, to prevent crowds gathering. This was organised by Hastings Borough Bonfire Society, Renegade Pyrotechnics, and the Hastings Week Committee, with the support of Hastings Borough Council.

Hastings Mayor Cllr Nigel Sinden, the chair of the Hastings Week Committee, Nigel Hogben, and the chair of Hastings Borough Bonfire Society, Heather Leech, processed around the inside of Hastings Castle with burning torches, followed by a token fireworks display, courtesy of Renegade Pyrotechnics. This included a civic salute, and 25 bangs to mark the 25th anniversary of the Hastings Borough Bonfire Society. Pictures by kevin Boorman.
