On Sunday (July 12) at about 5pm, Natalie Brodrick, a paramedic in Hastings, was off duty with her two sons in the car when she stopped to help at the scene of a road traffic collision between Rye and Peasmarsh.

While attending the incident, one of Natalie’s sons trapped his head in the rear electric car window.

Natalie said: “My son cried out and I tried to get my electric windows down but they would not move.

“He is only five and was panicking and getting upset. Two ladies were already trying to help me when the ESC (East Sussex College) student came to our aid.”

Natalie said the mechanical engineering student who did not give her name responded quickly, putting her knowledge to use, explaining that a safety mechanism on the window meant it would not move if there was weight on it.They managed to lift the boy’s weight off the window and it released.

“I was so grateful for her quick thinking and help,” Natalie said.

“She was so polite and is a real credit to the college.”
