Specialist beer bar Twelve Hundred Postcards, on Queens Road, has raised over £450 for the charity Re-engage by giving away beer in exchange for donations.

“Like many local pubs and bars, we were forced to close to help stop the spread of the virus,” said owner David Brumley.

“At the time we had a full cellar and it looked like I would have to pour all of the beer away.

“It was horrible to think of all that great beer going to waste so I came up with the idea of giving it away and asking for charity donations.

“I chose a charity that helps people who are really affected by the crisis. Re-engage tackles loneliness for older people so it is a fitting cause.

“I have been overwhelmed by the generosity and support of customers who have donated money to the charity, I would like to thank them all, they have been fantastic, it has been great for something positive to happen during such a difficult time.”

David is currently making plans to reopen Twelve Hundred Postcards as soon as the government allows bars to do so.

The bar often showcases beers from local breweries and has a wide selection of continental beers.

The cellar is now empty and more than £450 has been raised. Anyone who would like to make a donation can visit www.uk.gofundme.com/f/1200-postcards.
