The bridge was closed in November last year as part of Network Rail’s Upgrade Plan, which saw the staircase coverings, treads and metalwork all renewed, with an anti-slip surface applied.
It was also repainted and given a protective covering.
Railway enthusiast, author and photographer John Vaughan took a look back at the history of the station in a recent edition of the Herald to commemorate its 175th anniversary on March 16.

Hide AdJohn said the footbridge, which was first installed in 1900, was reopened without ceremony on Wednesday, March 31.
The finished work ‘looks very smart’, he said.
Last year the station’s platform was extended to allow longer Southern trains to use the station.
The extension was to support a new timetable during the construction of a £150m upgrade to Gatwick Airport station.
Construction work on the platforms was completed last year, allowing passengers to access the full length of the trains.
This also means level crossings at Goring will be closed for much shorter times, cutting traffic congestion.
