Firefighters tackle large scrap metal blaze near Hastings

Firefighters were called to deal with a scrap metal fire in Westfield.

Crews were sent to Ripley’s Scrap Metal merchants, at Hole Farm, Westfield Lane, Westfield , on Monday afternoon (April 19).

Residents living nearby were advised to keep their windows and doors closed and to avoid the area.

At 6pm, East Sussex Fire said four fire engines were at the scene along with an aerial ladder platform dealing with the ‘deep seated fire in 600 tons of scrap metal’.

At 9.47pm, the fire service confirmed crews had left the incident after the burning scrap metal was brought under control.

“The site is now being monitored by the owners,” added a spokesman.
