Firefighters rescue person from St Leonards fire

A person required treatment for smoke inhalation after being rescued from a fire in St Leonards.

The East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to a fire at a residential property in Eversfield Place, St Leonards, at 11.22pm on Sunday (April 19).

Four fire engines from The Ridge, Hastings and Bexhill were called to the scene.

A spokesman for the fire service said firefighters rescued one person from the property who was handed over in to the care of ambulance service after suffering from smoke inhalation.

Crews used four breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire, according to the spokesman.

East Sussex Fire said the cause of the fire was deemed accidental.

The fire emanated from a cooker, they added.
