Extinction Rebellion organise Halloween march in Hastings
The Hastings and St Leonards branch of Extinction Rebellion has organised a march for this Halloween.
The demonstration, to be held on Saturday, October 31, will start at The Stade at 6pm and end at 8pm by Muriel Matters House, Breeds Place.
Extinction Rebellion Hastings and St Leonards said the march aims to highlight the ‘climate and ecological emergency’.
The group said: “Observing XR’s principles of non-violence and respect for all. We will wear black, (or be in themed colours of red, orange and white), with many dressed as skeletons and carry a light for fire. Bring your creativity, placards and message.
“We want to unite Hastings’ old traditional festivals with the global rebellion against the extinction of life on earth. An opportunity for the whole community to express our profound concerns.
“We encourage families to attend as we have done a stringent risk assessment to ensure the safety of all as far as possible. We will be staying outside at all times. Social distancing will be maintained, we will all be in groups of 30 and wearing masks. Masks and hand sanitisers are recommended for all those present.
“There will be sombre drumming and some fire torches will be carried by Rebels. ‘From Pier to Eternity’ illuminated cyclists will merge with the march. Grandparents and elders group march to plead for ‘Help’ for the young’s future. Bystanders are strongly advised to distance-join the march to avoid non-distanced crowding.”
