Elvis fan Sam sings for Hastings neighbours to raise £1,000 for Conquest Hospital staff

Sam ‘Elvis’ Lebat sang Elvis songs every Thursday night at 8pm during Lockdown to raise £1,000 for NHS staff at the Conquest Hospital.

They loved it so much, live videos were shared on social media to friends and families, putting a smile on hundreds of faces and soon the donations poured in.

Every week Sam sang his heart out with his wife Trish in support who, with a work colleague Yasmin Ferries at the 1066 café, designed posters, magnets and badges to sell.

Hastings Mayor Cllr Nigel Sinden along with fellow Silverhill Cllr, Margi O’Callaghan attended the cheque ceremony at Conquest Hospital added the towns appreciation for the Lebat families efforts.

Nigel, a big Elvis fan himself, was delighted with the initiative and wished both Sam and Trish well.

Sam and Trish were overwhelmed by how much they received each week and are so proud to be able to help for such a great cause.

Matron Karin Knowles, from the orthopaedic trauma ward accepted the £1,000 cheque on behalf of all the staff at Conquest Hospital and thanked both Sam and Trish for their huge effort in organising the weekly singalongs.

Cllr O’Callaghan said: ““I think Sam and his wife Trish have been amazing members of the community and have brought light to this otherwise gloomy time.”
