Efit of man wanted by police

An Efit of a man has been released by police after an elderly woman was conned.

Two men called at her house and offered to clean the guttering for £40. She accepted the offer but later declined a further offer to do some roof work for £240.

One man walked the victim to the back of the house along a rear path and then left having been paid for the work they had done. When she went back to her front door she realised her handbag containing cash and bank cards had been stolen from the lounge.

The men were seen to drive off in a blue panel type van with ladders attached to the roof in the direction of St Helen’s Park Road. The first man was white, in his late 20s to early 30s, 5ft 8ins and of slim build with short dark hair. He wore a grey t-shirt and tight fitting leather gloves. The second man, to whom the Efit relates, is described as a white, in his 20s, 5ft 8ins and of slim build with short fair hair and a prominent nose. He may have had a little moustache.

Detective Sergeant Jason Tuck said: “We believe the second man took the victim’s handbag while she was distracted by the first man.”

Anyone who recognises the man in the Efit should email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting serial 509 of 04/01.
