The school has introduced a community fundraising project.

A causeway is defined as a raised road or track across low or wet ground and in modern history their use can be traced back to the Aztec city-state of Tenochtitlan (Mexico City) in the 15th Century.

During this lockdown they are taking on a challenge called Causeway to Causeway For Our Community. All staff and students have been set a target of collectively travelling the 5,582 miles from the school to Mexico City. This could take any form such as running, walking, cycling, scootering.

James Pratt, assistant head teacher at the Causeway School, said: “We all know the importance of staying physically active during lockdown and we saw this as the perfect opportunity to raise money and awareness for food poverty.

“The Causeway School has such a fantastic sense of community and I knew that everyone would jump at the chance to support those most in need, in anyway they could.

“I am incredibly proud of all of our students and staff for their determination to ensure something positive comes from the current situation.”

During these unprecedented times of school closures, The Causeway has three priorities.

James explained: “Ensuring all of our students continue to receive an excellent education, which we are achieving through a robust programme of remote learning.

“Ensuring all of our students stay physically, mentally and emotionally healthy.

“Minimising the impact of lockdown on all members of our local community.”

They have set a fundraising target of £1,000 for The Trussell Trust.
