Crew remains at scene of house fire near Rye

Four fire engines were called to a house fire in Beckley, near Rye.

East Sussex Fire said reports of a fire in a residential property in Main Street, Beckley, came in at 11.01am on Thursday (July 16).

“We currently have firefighters from Rye, The Ridge, Battle & Burwash in attendance,” East Sussex Fire said.

“We are advising all nearby residents to close windows & doors. Please avoid the area.”

In an update at 1.27pm, East Sussex Fire said one fire engine remained at the scene.

“Firefighters are currently dampening down and awaiting a Fire Investigation to commence,” they added.

Firefighters used six breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and 1 in 7 foam to extinguish the fire.
