Sam ‘Elvis’ Lebat sings from his front door following the 8pm clap for carers on Thursday. So far he has raised nearly £600 through his efforts. Hastings Mayor Cllr Nigel Sinden said: “I meet up with Sam, keeping a two metre distance, on my daily exercise walk which I often take in Silverhill Ward. Well done Sam. If we all work together we will survive this virus.”

Deputy Mayor Cllr James Bacon said: “We would like to thank Sam for showing such community spirit.”

Sam commented: “I am a big fan of Elvis and love learning his songs. I would like to say a big thank you to my wife Trish who has helped with the costume and filming and all those who donated. I would also like to thank our friend Yasmin, who helped with the posters”

Cllr Margi O’Callaghan said: “As a resident of Silverlands Road and the Councillor of Silverhill I think Sam and his wife Trish have been amazing members of the community and have certainly lightened up the clap for carers on a Thursday evening. They have brought light to this otherwise gloomy time.

“Even when it’s been raining and Elvis is in danger of getting his ‘blue suede shoes’ wet they have been out collecting smiles and money for such a good cause. All their proceeds are going to the NHS as they are both fantastic members of Silverhill’s fabulous community. I feel so proud to be their neighbours and local councillor.”
