Community to gather in memory of Hastings boy Denny

The Hastings community will be gathering this evening in memory of an inspirational seven-year-old boy, who died following a four-and-a-half year battle with leukaemia.

Denny Nassy, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) in January 2016, died in hospital at 2pm on Monday. 

Paying tribute, Denny’s aunt Michele Laurens said the seven-year-old ‘had more battles in his short little life than any of us could even imagine’. Read more here

At 7pm tonight, people will be gathering to remember Denny.

In a post on social media, the family wrote: “There is no set destination for this, many different towns and places are releasing balloons. Some are letting go of balloons from their own gardens.

“Funeral arrangements for our Denny are still being arranged but due to Covid, only 30 will be able to attend his funeral.

“For those that can’t attend, we will be arranging a line-up along the route where Denny leaves, up to the cemetery where people can release balloons, as Denny passes them, goodbye messages to Denny can be put in the balloons.

“Will update you on route nearer the time, but for now will be nice to see the sky light up for Denny.
