The group, called Bexhill Creative and started by Cllr Kathy Harmer as a legacy project following her year as mayor, has enlisted the talents of several artists and given their support to W.ave Arts Bexhill in the installation of several pieces of street art.

The group hopes to collaborate with musicians, performers and creative people of all disciplines to amplify Bexhill’s artistic and creative talents. Cllr Harmer said: “There is already an amazing amount of talent in our town, this is about bringing the community together and loving where you live. The dream is to make Bexhill a jewel on the south coast for creativity, arts and culture in all its forms.”

As well as Cllr Harmer, the councillors behind Bexhill Creative include Cllr Christine Bayliss, portfolio holder for regeneration, Cllr Hazel Timpe, portfolio holder for tourism and Cllr Sam Coleman who, as well as being cabinet spokesman for youth and child poverty, is a performer and appeared in Game of Thrones.

Cllr Bayliss said: “The creative industries are at the heart of the Rother Alliance’s economic development and recovery strategy. We’re investing over £1m in developing a creative arts centre in Beeching Road which will be a hub for learning, workshops and exhibitions. This is something Bexhill Creative can support.”

Cllr Timpe said: “In my role as cabinet lead for communities, culture and tourism I shall be championing these efforts to boost Bexhill’s cultural output. Many exciting projects are in the pipeline and I can’t wait to help put Bexhill on the map.”
