Author helps with Orange Prize celebration

NOVELIST Anna Stothard will visit Billingshurst Library on Wednesday June 8 as part of celebrations for the annual Orange Prize for Fiction.

Anna will be talking about her latest novel ‘The Pink Hotel’, as well as discussing the nominations for the Orange Prize for Fiction.

Launched in 1996, the Orange Prize for Fiction is the UK’s only annual book award for fiction written by women. It celebrates excellence, originality and accessibility in women’s writing from around the world.

After Anna has spoken, the audience will have the chance to vote for their favourite book from the Prize’s shortlist and hear the live announcement of the winner relayed from London.

The shortlisted titles are:

‘Annabel’ by Kathleen Winter

‘The Tiger’s Wife’ by Tea Obreht

‘Grace Williams Says It Loud’ by Emma Henderson

‘Great House’ by Nicole Krauss

‘The Memory of Love’ by Aminatta Forna

Deborah Urquhart, County Council Cabinet Member with responsibility for Libraries, said: “Awards such as the Orange Prize for Fiction are a chance for authors to get some recognition for their work and the Library Service is happy to support it.”
