People Like Council's Efforts

TOWNSPEOPLE have highlighted the need for a youth club, theatre, cr che, caf area and facilities for the elderly as Littlehampton's top priorities.

The responses came in a customer satisfaction survey of residents by Littlehampton Town Council, sent out to every home in the town.

More than 400 were returned and an analysis shows a high level of satisfaction with town council services.

Other findings were that residents felt street lighting helped to make neighbourhoods safer at night, and that there was an "exceptionally high level" of awareness of town council services, particularly the museum, allotments, public conveniences and the Dairy Community Centre.

More than half of the respondents believed the council provided a high standard and cost-effective service, and there was healthy support for the range and type of services provided, and praise for the council's "helpful, prompt and efficient staff".

Councillor George O'Neill, chairman of the council's planning performance and review sub-committee, which commissioned the report, said: "I am delighted that the responses show that the town council continues to maintain a high profile and public support.

"It is important that the council does not rest on its laurels and pushes for continuous involvement. Many of the comments received will need to be addressed by the council which, in turn, will ensure that the public of Littlehampton continue to be informed of progress."

To thank residents taking part in the survey, a draw was held to pick 12 people to receive a bottle of sparkling wine, with a number of the winners receiving their bubbly from Mr O'Neill at the council's Manor House offices.
