Pensioner’s bag, cash and cards stolen

A pensioner’s handbag and cash were stolen in a distraction burglary last Sunday (January 4).

Two men called at an elderly woman’s house in Fearon Road between 11am and 12.30pm and offered to clean the guttering for £40.

She accepted the offer but later declined a further offer to do some roof work for £240. One man walked the victim to the back of the house along a rear path and then he left having been paid for the work they had done. When the victim went back to her front door she realised her handbag containing a small amount of cash and bank cards had been stolen from the lounge.

The men were seen to drive off in a blue panel type van with ladders attached to the roof in the direction of St Helens Park Road. The first man was white, in his late 20s to early 30s, 5ft 8ins tall, slim with short dark hair. He wore a grey T-shirt and tight fitting leather gloves. The second man was white, in his 20s, 5ft 8ins, slim, with short fair hair. He may have had a little moustache.
