A STUDENT from Parkwood sixth form created the winning design for this year’s Jack-in-the-Green Design Competition.

Barnaby Catterall, who is studying AS-level Graphic Design, entered the public competition as part of his coursework. The design was used on promotional material including posters, the website, badges and t-shirts in the run-up to the Jack-in-the-Green festivities.

Barnaby said: “For my design I wanted to make it different and unique; for it to have a different take on Jack-in-the-Green.

“I noticed that previous designs weren’t as appealing to younger people as they could be, and being a young person myself, I wanted to make a change to that. I aimed to include characters that participate in Jack-in-the-Green, like the Bogies and the Morris dancers, and I made them fall victim to Jack’s over-excitement.”

Susan Warren, A-level Graphic Design teacher, said: “Barnaby is a gifted young designer with a most promising future ahead of him.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to showcase the talents of our students.”
