Opposition to care home plans

RESIDENTS are opposing a planning application to alter and convert a building in Ashburnham Road into 12 residential apartments.

Alltype Property Developers Ltd has put in an application to Hastings Borough Council to obtain permission to convert the former Kilncroft Care Home, 25-29 Ashburnham Road, Hastings, into 12 self-contained flats consisting of seven one-bedroom and five two-bedroom apartments.

The council has received one petition with 40 signatories and seven letters objecting to the planning application.

The former care home is a large detached part three-storey, part four storey building and in 2013, a planning application to turn the property into 13 apartments, seven one-bedroom flats and six two-bedroom flats was refused.

The council opposed the application because the plans did not include adequate parking facilities, provision for affordable housing and it was decided that the use of the property as 13 flats would result in unsatisfactory living conditions of future occupants. The application will be discussed at the borough council’s next planning committee meeting on Wednesday (May 14) at 6pm at the Town Hall, Queen’s Square, Priory Meadow.
