Thoughts on the pier

I have been disappointed recently, at comments I had read in the press and generally heard around the pub regarding our new pier.

A plank none the less, quite cruel.

Having taken a trip along the other Friday I have to say that I found it extremely refreshing and appreciated the moderate reflection of nostalgia. Fantastic.

I feel the ‘plank shouters’ or ‘plankers’ as I shall call them should consider the fact that a mess has been replaced, only due to the hard work of Hastings Borough Council, a large group of professional and voluntary workers and of course notwithstanding, a lot of money.

This money needs to give a return to most of the financial contributors which hopefully it does, but it has quite clearly given Hastings and St Leonards a brilliant asset which will in turn improve our local economy as well as helping reduce our local unemployment.

Not only that, ‘plankers’ need to realise that to place a bigger structure on the pier would have needed a bigger budget which may have made it totally unviable and possibly decreased our opportunity to ever have a pier again.

My praise goes out with many congratulations to the entrepreneurs who are creating different types of events half way out to sea.

A performance from Madness heralding the official opening weekend but also Jaws, the feature film chosen for this particular evening.

What a brilliant place to view this classic film.

Having visited the pier I am now actually incensed by the ‘plankers’ and shout loudly well done to all those involved in getting our pier back.
