Physically sick after our walk

I WAS on the verge of writing to the Herald myself about the state of Worthing's pavements when I read the letter "Drowning in Dog Muck" in last week's paper.

I returned from a walk a couple of weeks ago with my two very young children, and my friend with children of the same age, when I discovered that the dog mess we had been trying to avoid almost the length of Sea Place, was on my pushchair wheels and had rubbed onto our clothes.

I felt pysically sick while I was cleaning it up.

Do people not realise how dangerous dog mess is to children? Do they not realise that it can cause blindness?

I have grown up with dogs and have no problem with them.

What I do have a problem with is the few irresponsible owners who are not clearing up after their dogs, making everyone else's life a misery.

I'm sure most people will agree that taking out a pushchair with a baby and a pre-schooler on a scooter has enough troubles of its own, with busy roads, without having to watch out for dog mess as well.

WORTHING council says there have been "no recent prosecutions" under the dog-fouling laws.

A spokeswoman said: "Identifying those responsible is generally extremely difficult unless the council gets information and help from the public.

"We are currently looking into the potential for use of CCTV to identify culprits and also increased out-of-hours patrolling by our dog warden.

"If the press would pass on all complaints about dog fouling to the council, they will be investigated on an individual basis and all complainants will be contacted."
