People not party policies

In future elections, be it for our representative in national government, county, borough, district or parish council, how would it be if we thought less of the candidate's political leaning and more of the person?

We would then make our mark for someone we honour as a person of integrity, honesty and commitment to the electorate.

It was with such persons that I myself was privileged to serve years ago when a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ was regarded almost as being more binding than a legal one.

By such means we might enjoy the principles by which we were governed then, both by such persons and those they employed on our behalf, and stem what I see as a culture of double standards, lack of truth, blaming someone else and waste of public money on lost causes which seems to be developing at all levels.
