Merits of sculpture?

I WAS amazed to read about the town council's proposal to spend more public money on the technicolour ice cream scoop of a sculpture at the junction of the High Street and London Road.

Their decision appears to have been taken despite Councillor Paul Wells’ scathing and justified criticism.

I believe the sculpture is regarded with contempt by local people and serves no purpose at all, except to give extra ammunition to those who like to refer to Bognor as a dump.

If some form of urban feature is required, there are plenty of good examples in this country and across the channel.

Personally, I think an empty space would be preferable to what is there at present. If there’s money available, please use it to take the thing away!
