Maybe we should clear up rubbish

Geoffrey Whitehead’s letter (Why is litter such a problem in Hastings? Observer, March 3) is spot on.

I tried to get Hastings Borough Council to clean up Little Ridge Avenue and Harrow Lane without any success.

My local councillor also asked the cleaning department to do something but nothing much happened other than the sweeper machines paid a couple of ineffective visits, which missed all the litter on the verges.

After a month I went out and collected eight bags of litter. Little Ridge Avenue has never looked so clean.

Maybe Hastings Borough Council is not interested in clearing litter and we should all clean a short section of road in our own area.

There are plenty of people with time on their hands who could help.
