We should support Hastings’ very own ‘Carnegie Hall’

For crying out loud! Vast sums are yet again to be squandered on ‘redeveloping’ the tired, drab, old Observer building in Cambridge Road - despite its abysmal track record (“Observer building plans get go-ahead”, Hastings Observer, 25th September). Talk about throwing good money after bad!

A far more deserving recipient is the His Place Community Church (AKA the Opus Theatre) just down the road, with its fine, interesting architectural detail. It has served as a successful venue for classical concerts and attracted world class performers, thanks to the entrepreneurial zeal of Polo Piatti, Hastings’ ambassador for classical music. Hastings can now boast its very own Carnegie Hall. Unfortunately, it is in dire need of restoration, to the tune of approximately £500,000. Let’s raise the money for this cause and invest in culture for the enjoyment of future generations of Hastonians.
